The date was January 12th, 1966, and 14-year-old Michael Uslan was about to experience one of the most harrowing moments of his young life. It was the debut of the now-legendary Batman TV series, with its campy humor and Pow! Zap! Wham! exclamations, and it offended every comic book-obsessed fiber of Uslan’s being. On that night, he quietly vowed to return Batman to the dark glory of the original comic books — he just didn’t know how. In this hilarious and surprisingly poignant new play based on Uslan’s memoir, we accompany him on his journey from geeky young dreamer to geeky showbiz powerhouse, one who changed our vision of the Caped Crusader forever. Because every hero needs a hero — even Batman.
